Several buddies and I from here in Indiana have talked about hunting elk for a long time. One hunting buddy said we might have to try several different outfitters before we find a good one. Well let me tell you about my first elk hunt, 2009 with Chris Lucero of Screamin' Bull Outfitters. In one word, "unbelievable". I got a big, mature, 6x6 bull that scored 340 BC. Great accommodations, food, hot showers, and great people. Why hunt Colorado, the big bulls are in New Mexico.

I had been on three different elk hunts prior to my hunt with Screamin' Bull Outfitters in 2009. It wasn’t until this hunt that I really felt the true experience of elk hunting. I was fortunate enough to connect with my very first mature bull which was just one of the high lights of my hunt. After my hunt was over we continued to hunt with cameras and saw many elk and nice bulls. I’ve been on many guided hunts and this outfit is second to none. I took another nice 6 X 6 bull in 2010. My experience with Screamin' Bull Outfitters has been outstanding. . When I started with SBO eight years ago, I was just a client. Now I feel like they are more like family to me. I have killed six excellent bulls with the smallest being a 5 X 5 and the largest a 6 X 7. Incredible experience. Amazing and breathtaking scenery, incredible terrain hosting an abundant amount of trophy elk! While I was able to take an amazing trophy elk, my hunt would have been memorable even without the trophy. My guide, Chris Lucero, was incredibly knowledgeable on both the area and the animals. He taught me more about the habitat, the patterns, and the preferences of the elk than I could ever learn from any other source. Chris was very focused on making sure that we had the absolute best outcome from our hunt. He was driven to deliver 'above and beyond', taking personal accountability to ensure absolute satisfaction. The experience of the lodge and the food was fantastic! What a great experience to be able to enjoy very comfortable surroundings while not in the field. The food was excellent and abundant and presented in a 'family like' atmosphere. Chris went out of his way to provide an exciting and satisfying experience. After I took my elk, Chris and I continued to hunt for other available and permitted game. We also spent time fly fishing in local rivers and lakes near the lodge! It was an experience I will never forget!

Joined Chris of Screamin' Bull Outfitters in 2009 for an antelope hunt on his NE New Mexico properties. It was my first hunt with him and will not be my last. With only three days we saw 20+ good bucks and 3-4 that were probably over 80 ". Chris is interested in quality management on his ranches and over the next few years the genetics here will really pay off. I shot a real nice goat in high 70s we called the ranch buck. Am also planning an elk hunt with Chris on his fine elk ranch.

I want to thank Chris Lucero for the most memorable hunt ever! He set me up on a beautiful bull at 15 yards that I took with my bow. The bull is now hanging as the center piece of my trophy room. The beauty of Rio Costilla Park is breath taking. We always got into bulls and mule deer. I have never had anyone work so hard to provide a service that far exceeded my expectations. The hospitality is unmatched. I was given my own spacious cabin for home. Exceptional meals were prepared. Every one was very friendly and I will always value our friendship. I have hunted with Chris Lucero on 3 different occasions and I can say that Chris is one of the best guides I have worked with. Chris bowhunts Elk during the rut with a very aggressive style that gets the hunter close to the animal. I bow hunted the Rio Costilla Park Ranch with Screamin' Bull Outfitters for the first time in September '09. The ranch is as beautiful as it is demanding and will reward the hunters who arrive in good physical shape and with good archery equipment and form. The ranch has excellent elk numbers and quality and the guides know how to find them. If you hunt hard and with skill you will most likely have elk within shooting distance. That doesn't always guarantee a shot, but the guides will work hard for you. Accommodations and food are excellent. I look forward to booking another bow hunt on the Rio Costilla Park Ranch with SBO.
